3 Unusual Ways To Double Your Success This Year - Work It Daily

3 Unusual Ways To Double Your Success This Year - Work It Daily When you feel like you’re a highly valuable asset to your organization, yet you’re bored, under-appreciated, or under-paid… what do you do? Related: 3 Powerful Universal Laws For Getting What You Want You know you have options… but finding a new job takes effort. Plus, what if it winds up being worse than your current position? You feel like your mind has been numbed by the boredom of doing the same thing, day in and day out… …And even though you crave more… Know you’re worth more… And truly, legitimately deserve more… It’s easy to get caught in the trap of comfortable boredom. Well, I have good news for you. These three unusual tricks for doubling your success are about to make you uncomfortable. And you’re going to like it. The 3 Unusual Ways To Conquer Career Complaints Double Your Success This Year Trick #1: Write Your Own Eulogy Here’s a fun - albeit kind of dark - way to manipulate your mind into helping you conquer challenges and double your success this year. Imagine that you live out the rest of your life the way you’re on track to do so right now. Years down the road, you start to feel that it’s time to get your affairs in order. So you decide to have some fun with things, and write your own eulogy, to be delivered by you to your closest friends and family before you pass on. What would it say? Would you be happy with the course you’ve led? Would you have any regrets? Then think about the eulogy you’d want to write. If you could do anything from now until the end of your life, and today was the last day of the “old you,” what would that eulogy say? If your desired eulogy is different than how things are looking now, then you know what you have to do - and having seen how things will be if you don’t, you’ll be pretty motivated to make it so. Trick #2: Use The Idea Of “Pain” To Your Advantage Here’s a fun trick I learned from a mentor. It’s based off the idea that most people will do more to avoid pain than they will to seek pleasure. So here’s what you do: Think about what you want more than anything in the world. Get specific about it, and set a goal to achieve it with a hard deadline. Then, get some help from a trusted friend. Tell them about your goal and why it’s important for you to achieve it. Ask them for ideas of what kind of punishment they could inflict upon you if you fail to achieve it, and then ask them to promise to hold you accountable - NO MATTER WHAT - if you fail. I’ve heard of people giving a friend a $1000 check, and telling them to cash it if they don’t succeed. Years back, my wife’s idea was for me to get a bikini wax if I failed to start a business by a certain date (which, believe me, was VERY motivating. Needless to say, I didn’t fail). Depending on your sense of humor and how bad you want it, you can have a lot of fun with this. Trick #3: Get Excited About Something New Inspiration is found by exploring the world and seeing what excites and drives you. If you’re a high achiever, but find that you’re bored or under-appreciated, then a good place to start looking for something better is the GameChangers 500 website. It’s a list of the world top For-Benefit companies, and includes inspiring organizations renowned for both empowering their employees and making a huge difference in the world. Examples include Zappos, Kiva, and Patagonia, and there are thousands more companies like this if you know where to look. However, if you’re going to apply - be sure to use modern job seeking strategies like you’ll find here. Old school resumes don’t work in this arena, my friend. In fact, my mentor - who is the founder of the GameChangers 500 - helped me put together a free video for you showing three practical tips on how to get their attention and get a job with one of them. Good luck! Give a little why you should volunteer this Christmas

Give a little why you should volunteer this Christmas Give a little why you should volunteer this ChristmasPosted November 13, 2013, by Julia Watters Tis the season for giving and I dont just mean the kind you go rummaging under the Christmas tree for. Sure, giving to charity in the monetary sense can go towurdes much needed resources, but whats even more valuable is time your time. We spoke to some Christmas angels who selflessly donate their time and effort each December for those less fortunate than themselves. Pay it forward Lisa Cox was 24 when she was hospitalised for over a year, remaining ward-bound over the Christmas period. What Lisa appreciated more than anything was the effort her family and friends went to to ensure that she never felt alone, especially over the festive season but it didnt go unbedrngnisiced by Lisa that others werent as lucky. As a result, every Christmas morning Lisa now revisits the hospital ward she called home for so long to bring some holiday c heer to those who cant be at home with their families. I think I have a moral responsibility to pay it forward, so to speak. Making a stranger smile holds more value to me than materialistic gifts. It sounds clichd but I wouldnt have been doing this so many years in a row if I didnt believe in it. Spreading the cheer The volunteering opportunities around the festive season reach beyond the walls of a ward, with organisations running programs from local community to national level. People like volunteer Narelle Lee make the most of these philanthropic opportunities by offering their time through a range of such programs, such as delivering hampers to families in need. I cant recommend doing something for someone else highly enough and would encourage everyone to look around their communities to see just how they can help make a difference. This year, with the impact of the fires there will be even more opportunities to make a difference, but really it is not just Christmas there is something that can be done all year round, says Lee. Dont just do-little People are not the only ones who deserve our generosity at Christmas time. Each year, the RSPCA has an annual appeal asking people to reconsider buying Christmas puppies and kittens, which often result in a high proportion of unwanted animals being dumped at their door when the festivities are over. In fact, they estimate that over 13,500 animals will enter their care from November through to January this year. Debra Borland from Animal Aid, a not-for-profit animal welfare shelter in Victoria, is all too familiar with this cycle. Their animal shelters need to be manned every day to ensure the health and wellbeing of the animals they take in is maintained animals still need to be fed, cleaned and cared for as the rest of us eat, drink and make merry. Debra is thankful for the volunteers who generously give up a few hours over Christmas and Boxing Day to keep the animals company and make sure they dont go wi thout. Volunteers are the lifeblood of Animal Aid we are so indebted to the special individuals who give up part of their Christmas day to make sure that animals who arent lucky enough to have a family to share it with get all the love and attention they deserve, says Borland. So regardless of how you want to get involved this Christmas, there is a volunteering opportunity to suit your interests and availability. Why not give your time these holidays it wont cost you a cent, and it will mean everything to those you help. We arent always going to agree and not everything is going to work out the way we planned. Sometimes, I bite my tongue and look past the disagreement, try to focus on something that matters more and move on. While David and I love to playfully argue, he is so fiercely loyal and unconditionally loves our family, Nicole shares. What theyve learned about their careers Sometimes, the good/bad cop routin e pays off for this dynamic duo, when theyre figuring out vendors and making corporate decisions. Nicole credits this to a joint vested interest in the shop. In business in general, you cant do everything on your own. You hire people that have different skill sets to complete certain requirements you need to help you grow and prosper. We are lucky to have such different skills and be able to work together toward a common goal, she explains.Their advice Remember that its okay - and healthy - to disagree. Going into business together can be a very positive thing but it can also be very trying at times. You wont always agree on everything but you have to agree to disagree and not let the business conversations interfere with the relationship. You also cant always be working. Shut off your computers and phones and set aside downtime to enjoy each other and regroup, she adds.Laura Eric,Runamonk MapleTheir company Runamonk Maple, where they produce barrel-aged, infused, smoked and most importantly, pure maple syrup. How they met When they were attending graduate school at Duke University, they met each other and something clicked. They moved to Washington, D.C. after graduation where they both had jobs in the environmental non-profit sector. However, they grew disenchanted and decided to make the move to Vermont to start an organic farm. Nine years later, they switched gears to maple syrup. By 2016, they were up and running - and growing. What theyve learned about their relationship They have 19 years under their belt - and theyve figured out how to push one another forward. We are very lucky in that we complement each other. Eric is much better at the business strategy behind the scenes while I am more comfortable being the public voice of the company and interacting with customers. Eric is very good at spending all day in meetings tackling the nuts and bolts of running a company while I prefer to be more hands-on, in the kitchen or the woods. It would have real ly taxed our relationship if we both wanted to do the same job, Laura shares. What theyve learned about their careers Unlike when two people work different gigs in various industries, Laura shares theres a certain foundation that comes from being in business with your partner. When you have to cover all of that territory you have no choice but to divide and conquer. It forced us to examine which aspects of the business each of us was good at and jump into those roles. What has been great about working with my husband is that we respect each others abilities knowing someone you trust is in charge makes it that much less stressful, she explains.Their advice Respect goes a long way. There are always going to be joint decisions that come up in which someone is not going to get their way but if you can keep those to a minimum, you will be healthier for it. In the end, it can be a great thing for a relationship. We each do our own thing but we also deal with the same people, have the same worries about the industry and put our hearts into making the same company move forward, she addsSuji Geoff,Skeem DesignTheir company Skeem Design, an indie boutique that sells match bottles, scented candles, perfume, and incense. How they met During college, these two then-kids met through a mutual friend and lived as roommates. A few years passed and they decided to move in with their respective significant others - but realized they were actually meant to be together. Eighteen months later, they got married. Four years later in 2001, they founded Skeem Designs. What theyve learned about their relationship For Suji, its confirmed all of her original notions that theyve made an incredible team. In every aspect of our lives, our personalities and our very different ways of looking at the world complement one another. Geoff is more of a dreamer and I am more of a doer. He will say, I would love to do this or this would be amazing, and I am off and running to make it happen. Or I wi ll bring a project to him, only for him to turn it on its head and come back with something so much better than anything I had dreamed of myself, she continued. Of course, it is these differences that can cause conflicts, but for the most part we have so much respect for each other and our individual talents, that we are able to work through these differences pretty easily. What theyve learned about their careers Even though they both had killer jobs before they became entrepreneurs - Suji worked for Anthropologies, while Geoff was at an advertising agency - they knew the corporate grind wasnt for them. We started Skeem Design with a mission of having a healthy life-work balance. This original mission still guides us on all our major decisions. We have never grown for the sake of bigger, better, more, as we have always known we would take freedom and time over money. We strongly believe that time is a currency more valuable than money and that is a hard thing to hold on to when you are growing rapidly, Suji shared. we both grew up in entrepreneurial families, so it was natural for us to start our own business one day.Their best adviceLet each other have final say in their areas of expertise. I will always defer to Geoff on any creative or design decisions and he will always defer to me on any business or financial decision, she shares. Having a shared, well-defined mission about why you are doing this in the first place is helpful. For us, we can always go back to our mission and say, Is this good for us, is it good for our lives?
